I’LL GET THROUGH IT

I’ll get through it, she says…
As she wakes up in the morning,
Not as cheery, as the mornings, before,
Cause, she’s anxious from the nightmare
Of the reality before her.
I’ll get through it she says…
As she brushes her teeth,
With the, almost empty,
Tube of toothpaste, and,
No more left in stock.
I’ll get through it, she says…
As she filters her coffee through
A paper towel, cause she’s
Out of coffee filters.
I’ll get through it, she says…
As she checks her pantry to
See what meals can be created,
Cause the, usually full, cupboards
Are almost bare.
I’ll get through it, she says…
As the bills continue to come in,
Which she’s always paid, before,
But, now, finds difficult to do,
On a, temporary, lower income.
I’ll get through it, she says…
As she recalls the generosity,
She’d always shown toward others,
But, now, isn’t able to do,
In light of an unfortunate situation.
I’ll get through it, she says…
As she stares at her Christmas tree,
Almost bare, underneath, cause,
This year won’t be as generous
As the Christmas’s of past.
I’ll get through it, she says…
As she fights through tears,
Trying to understand why things
Suddenly, happened the way they did.
I’ll get through it, she says…
As she, pridefully, turns down
Her friend’s, generous, offer,
Cause she feels that, while it’s appreciated,
It really shouldn’t be on them, to assist.
I’ll get through it, she says…
As she wonders why those,
That matter to her most,
The ones she’s, always, been there for,
Could watch her struggle,
And not say a word.
I’ll get through it, she says…
With confidence, as she is reminded
That she’s had to fight for herself,
Most of her life.
I’ll get through it, she says…
Remembering all of her struggles,
And how she got through them, all,
On her own.
I’ll get through it, she says…
As she crawls under the blankets,
And, takes her third nap of the day,
Cause that’s the only time when
She finds peace these days.
I’ll get through it,
She says…
